1 Hospitalized After American Airlines Plane Blows 2 Tires Landing at O’Hare

Emergency crews surrounded the aircraft on the tarmac as passengers evacuated using mobile stairs following a brake failure.

One person was hospitalized after an American Airlines flight suffered brake issues and blew two tires upon landing at O’Hare International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed AA Flight 41, arriving from Barcelona, landed safely around 2:30 p.m. after the crew reported a brake issue and a blown tire on the runway.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department reported one individual was transported to a local hospital in good condition following the incident.

The Boeing 787-800 aircraft had 234 passengers and 11 crew members on board at the time of the landing.

Video footage captured by ABC7 Chicago from the tarmac showed emergency vehicles surrounding the aircraft while passengers exited using mobile staircases.

According to the FAA, passengers deplaned directly onto the taxiway and were transported back to the terminal via airport buses.

American Airlines confirmed the Boeing 787-800 has been officially taken out of service to undergo a thorough inspection by its maintenance team.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the initial brake failure or caused the tires to blow on the landing roll.

The cause of the mechanical failure remains under investigation by federal aviation officials.
