Connor Williams Charged in Beating Death of Girlfriend in East Garfield Park

A 34-year-old man faces murder charges after his girlfriend was found fatally beaten inside an East Garfield Park apartment hours after reporting him for domestic battery.

Connor G. Williams, of the 3500 block of West Flournoy Street, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of Keri Chappell, 62.

Around noon on Friday, Chappell walked into the Chicago Police Department’s 11th (Harrison) District station to file a domestic battery report against Williams.

According to police records, Chappell told officers Williams grabbed her by the hair, pulling chunks from her scalp, and headbutted her in the face, causing an abrasion to her lip.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, officers responded to a call at an apartment in the 3500 block of West Flournoy Street. Officers found Chappell on the ground unresponsive with visible trauma to her head and body.

First responders pronounced Chappell dead at the scene.

An autopsy conducted Sunday by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Chappell died from multiple injuries resulting from an assault, officially ruling her death a homicide.

Williams was arrested by Chicago police at the Flournoy Street residence around 3:12 a.m. Saturday.

According to police reports, Williams admitted to having a recent argument with the victim prior to his arrest.

Court records indicate Williams has two prior convictions for domestic battery across two other counties.

Area 4 Detectives lead the ongoing investigation. Williams is scheduled to appear at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Monday for a detention hearing.
