Armored Car Courier Robbed Outside PNC Bank on West Cermak Road in Cicero

Town of Cicero officials confirm no injuries were reported after multiple suspects targeted a courier leaving a PNC Bank branch on West Cermak Road.

Federal authorities are coordinating with local police after an armored car courier was robbed Wednesday afternoon along a busy commercial corridor in west suburban Cicero.

The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Cermak Road.

According to Town of Cicero officials, police responded to emergency calls reporting an armed robbery in progress outside a retail banking facility.

Investigators determined that an armored car courier was exiting a PNC Bank branch and returning to a parked armored vehicle nearby when multiple individuals confronted the worker and carried out the robbery.

Town officials confirmed that no gunshots were fired during the encounter and no injuries were reported at the scene.

Aerial footage and visual reports showed police tape encircling a Brink’s armored transport vehicle parked along the perimeter of the bank branch.

Cicero police officers established a perimeter around the parking lot and immediate retail zone along Cermak Road while gathering surveillance footage and interviewing eyewitnesses.

Because armored car thefts fall under federal jurisdiction when financial institutions or interstate commerce are involved, Cicero police departments are actively coordinating search and evidence efforts alongside agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Community Context & Safety Practices

The 4800 block of West Cermak Road serves as a high-density commercial strip in Cicero, featuring high vehicle traffic, suburban retail plazas, and multiple financial institutions serving the near west suburbs.

While commercial robberies of armored transports remain rare, federal law enforcement and security professionals recommend the following precautionary practices for local shoppers and nearby business owners during high-profile crime scene investigations:

  • Maintain Distance from Active Scenes: Avoid driving through or walking near active police perimeters while federal agents and local forensic teams collect evidence.
  • Report Unscheduled Vehicle Movements: Local business owners with external security cameras covering Cermak Road or adjacent side streets are encouraged to preserve footage recorded between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
  • Submit Confidential Tips: Anyone with direct information or vehicle dashboard footage from the area near 48th Court and Cermak Road during the time of the incident can contact Cicero police or the FBI Chicago Field Office.

Authorities have not publicly released details regarding suspect descriptions or the specific amount of currency involved in the incident as the joint investigation continues.
